Parenting in 2023: Keeping Kids Off the Internet and Playing More
It's the year 2023, and parents are finally getting a handle on this whole "parenting" thing. We've stopped using our kids as guinea pigs to test out our latest theories on child-rearing, and we're actually spending time with our kids instead of just letting them fend for themselves. One of the biggest changes we've made is cutting back on screen time. Our kids are still spending too much time on their phones and laptops, but we're making an effort to get them offline and playing more.
Here are a few things we're doing to keep our kids off the internet and playing more:
1.We're getting them outdoors more. We take them on hikes, have picnics in the park, and go for bike rides around the neighborhood. They grumble about it at first, but they always end up having a good time. And bonus: they get tired out from all the fresh air and exercise, so they're less likely to spend all night glued to their screens!
2.We're encouraging them to play sports. Soccer, baseball, basketball—it doesn't matter what they play, as long as they're moving around and being active. We've even signed some of them up for dance classes! They might not like it at first, but they'll thank us later when they're in great shape and have a bunch of friends.
3.We're unplugging ourselves. This one is tough, but it's important. We can't expect our kids to disconnect if we're constantly checking our phones and laptops. So we're making an effort to put away our screens when we're around our kids.
